On Friday, May 10th, all of the top athletes in the citrus belt area descended upon California Baptist University to be recognized by the Citrus Belt Area Athletic Directors Association (CBAADA), but none shined so bright as our very own MVPs Jaden Randall and Daniel Rosell. When state representative Dave Reed announced their names, a hush fell over the room as those on hand realized they were in the presence of greatness. Taking Herculean strides, the two strode across the stage, accepted their patches from President John Tibbels, and then granted a photo opportunity to CIF commisioner Rob Wigod. The Eagles had landed.
Both Jaden and Daniel come off of impressive senior campaigns in their respective sports. In volleyball, Jaden lead the league championship girls’ volleyball team in both kills and blocks, and was named co-MVP for the league. In basketball, Jaden returned to defend our River Valley League crown from 2018, leading the Eagles in virtually every offensive category, including scoring, rebounding (both offensive and defensive), field goal percentage, 3-point shooting percentage, and blocks. Jaden was named to the 1st-team All-River Valley League squad.
Daniel had a season for the ages in Baseball, leading La Sierra to the River Valley League title. Daniel posted an impressive stat line that included an undefeated season on the bump (9-0) with a sub-1 ERA and over 50 Ks. At the plate Daniel hit over .430 for the season while leading the team in doubles, RBIs, and stolen bases. The Eagles advanced to the 2nd round of CIF before falling to eventual semi-finalist Summit 3-2.
With the 2018-2019 year in the books, who will be the next crop of Eagles to lead us to the promised land?
